Dining at the Calva is truly a social occasion. Take your time to savour, relax, and enjoy yourself. You don’t have to dress up or mind your table manners. Simplicity is our specialty in our cosy retreat. In the afternoon the host Norbert offers guests a glass of the local Laatscher wine to sample. Get to know the country and the people. On your walk, stop at the Calva and enjoy one – or two scoops of our homemade gelato. Meanwhile, Meinrad, our chef of over 25 years, is in the kitchen preparing our regional dishes, whereas our pizzaiolo makes the very best pizza in Vinschgau. The „Südtirol für Insider“ (South Tyrol for Insiders) guide book says „The best pizza far and wide can be found in Laatsch bei Mals.” Our outstanding food and the warm, familiar atmosphere attract local regulars as well as our house guests to join us again and again for dinner in the Calva, our restaurant in Mals in Vinschgau.

On your holiday in Italy you cannot afford to miss a delicious pizza right from our traditional wood-fired oven. Crispy, spicy, and full of flavour. In addition to our pizza, our restaurant in South Tyrol features popular local classic recipes from our dog-eared Italian and South Tyrolean cook books. Come sample traditional boiled beef with onion and pumkinseed vinaigrette, or an excellent Wiener Schnitzel made with local veal and garnished with rösti (dumplings) and homemade cranberry jam. Or enjoy fine pasta with seafood, beef tagliata with arugula and shaved parmesan, homemade apple strudel and apple dumplings and our favourite house-made ice-cream – just to give you a taste of what the Calva’s native Alpine-Mediterranean cuisine has in store for you.
